Things that fly.

I have always been fascinated by things that fly. As a child and teenager, I flew model airplanes, first rubber-powered free-flight, then IC powered radio-control. While I was at university, I flew the gliding club's Blanik glider. I never went solo, but I got close. Unfortunately, after my first year, the cost of living was such that I couldn't afford to go gliding any more. More recently, having moved to California, I took up hang gliding. Every flight is solo in a hang glider :-) Sadly, I have had to give up hang gliding for medical reasons.

These days, I'm back to getting my aeronautical fix from radio control. Only now, I fly gliders. My current stable contains

I'm on the waiting list at Maple Leaf Design for a Mirage, and I just received an Encore, which I will be building very soon. I'm going to build an Allegro-lite some time this year. For your amusement, I also have a list of models under construction, a list of models in honourable retirement, and a list of models which crashed and burned.

We have about a gazillion photos of me flying model airplanes. Steve likes to take photos, and airplanes can be great subjects. There will soon be a page containing some selected shots which we like.
